Down East Folk Arts Society

History and Purpose

The Down East Folk Arts Society was formed in 1993. In 1996, it received its status as a 501 c3 Non Profit Membership Organization. Our purpose is to provide programs that foster and promote the enjoyment of traditional, multi-cultural, and contemporary folk music, dance and storytelling in Carteret and Craven Counties. The Society believes that through sharing our music, dance, and storytelling traditions, we encourage appreciation for all cultures, and enrich the quality of life in our communities.

What We Do

In order to provide broad access to and participation in the "lively folk arts", the Folk Arts Society sponsors programs in Music, Dance, and Community Arts. These programs are developed with input from our members and community partners representing local businesses, churches, schools, civic and cultural organizations, foundations, libraries and senior centers.
