31, 2007 will mark the 10th Anniversary of the Down East FolkArts
Society’s Bogue Banks Boogie. Since it’s
inception, the Boogie has been a sell-out and a huge success.
A big part of its popularity (aside from the fabulous bands, callers,
and dancers!) has been the wonderful facility at which the event
takes place. The Trinity Camp and Conference Center is a lovely
facility nestled into the maritime forest between the sound and
the sea on one of North Carolina’s gorgeous barrier islands.
Its contemporary buildings offer private, double, and triple occupancy
rooms with private baths, a dining room with great home-cooked
meals (including non-meat selections), and a light and airy recreation
building that offers the best place for dancing in the New Year!
There’s also the opportunity to come a day early or stay
a day longer to better enjoy bird watching, walks on the beach,
or just relaxing with family and friends.
The Tribal Tune Twisters, BAND
Combining musicians from two of North Carolina's hottest bands, The Tribal Tune Twisters features David DiGiuseppe of FootLoose on accordion, Roger Gold of the Elf Tones on guitar, and Jim Roberts of FootLoose on percussion. High energy, great grooves, and dance musical its finest are on tap.
Sound Tech: Matt Greenwolf
Barbara Groh, CALLER
Barbara Groh, from Asheville, NC, has been calling contra dances all over the East coast since 1989. She is well known for her precise teaching, her extensive repertoire of excellent dances, and her playful, positive energy. She has called at numerous festivals, including the Charleston Bug Stomp, Gotta Dance, the Asheville Summer Soiree, the Black Mountain Music Festival, NEFFA, Moondance, Gypsy Meltdown, Spring Dance Romance, Butterball, Blue Moon, What the Hey, and the Lake Eden Arts Festival.
WorkShop: (Dec. 31st at 4 pm)
Workshop: What the Hey!
The Hey for Four can take many forms: full hey, half hey, 3/4 hey, diagonal hey, men start, ladies start, hey with a shadow, hey along the side. Come and experience some of the ways this figure can be incorporated into contra dances!
Welcome the New Year with a Massage!
FolkArts Society member Craig Hassler specializes in massage fundraisers for Non-Profit organizations and will attend this year’s Boogie to offer his services. His sessions can target the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms, legs, feet and hands – wherever your discomfort hits after a long day or evening of dance! Craig charges $1 a minute (10 minute minimum), of which 25% will be donated to the FolkArts Society.
