For 25 years, the Down East Folk Arts Society has been focused on our founding mission:
“To provide programs for the shared enjoyment of the lively folk arts
(music, dance, and storytelling) in Craven and Carteret Counties.”
As a 501 (c) 3 non-
encouraging and sponsoring cultural, artistic, educational and thoroughly entertaining programs.
It has been our pleasure to introduce the diversity and breadth of talented musicians and artists from Eastern North Carolina, and beyond, to audiences through scheduled performances. In addition, we have sponsored many of these same artists in our “Arts to the Schools” program.
We have been particularly proud of our commitment as members of the Fair Trade 1000, an organized social movement that aims to help musicians develop sustainable living wages as performers.
In March 2016, we were very pleased to host the first Down East Folk Arts Festival in New Bern, offering the public three days of amazing performances by twelve individual or musical groups from North Carolina and other parts in the country, an impressive exhibit by photographer/author Tim Barnwell, guitar building demonstrations, music workshops, contra dancing, drumming circles, and a hands-
